Vertical cantilever pumps have always proved their worth. Because a true cantilevered designed pump has no bearings or bushings in the liquid being pumped, they can run dry and there are no concerns about having to lubricate or cool them. Grit and dirt are of no concern to a cantilever pump. There are no mechanical seals to fail.
Tecnium Pumps (BT/BA series) offers a world-class cantilever design that can solve many problems in tanks and waste sumps. Because of its outstanding chemical resistance, the pumps are inert to most chemical attacks and very high temperatures. The plastic can handle abrasion better than stainless steel, which wears 10 faster than thermoplastics. Fiberglass wears 5 times faster. Tecnium vertical pumps can handle solids up to 10-12% by weight and solid sizes up to 1/8th of an inch.
The BT series can reach depths of up to 55 inches without a tailpipe. The column is constructed in FRP for support. The BA series is a smaller unit reaching depths of 29” without a tailpipe. The BA series column and cover plate are constructed in the same corrosion resistant plastic as the casing and impeller.
The cantilever pump is a “forget me” pump. Because they offer years of reliable service with no maintenance issues, maintenance staffs often forget that they even have a Tecnium pump keeping their waste sumps clear.
The shafts on the cantilever units are completely covered by a replaceable shaft sleeve. There is no need for a stainless steel shaft or any other exotic metals as the pumpage will never come into contact with the pumpage. If the sleeve is ever cracked or broken, a simple replacement with a new sleeve will solve the problem, saving the extreme cost of expensive parts made from exotic alloys.
There are Tecnium vertical cantilever pumps running in paper mills, steel mills and chemical plants in North America. They make the perfect waste sump moving everything from water to HCL & H2SO4. They make the perfect pump for plating facilities, desalination, and food processing plants.

The benefits of Thermoplastic Pumps
Very often, we at Shanley Pump and Equipment, Inc. get the question as to why anyone would use thermoplastic pumps instead of traditional metal pumps. A simple answer to this question is that a thermoplastic pump will have better resistance to some compounds such as acids, corrosive chemicals, and even seawater!
Shanley Pump and Equipment, Inc. is the North American representative for Tecnium Corrosion resistant pumps. Tecnium is a world leader in corrosion resistant pumping technology by using thermoplastics for their pump designs. Thermoplastic pumps are often less expensive and will last longer than metallic pumps.
Thermoplastic pumps such as Tecnium have chemical and abrasion resistance better than stainless steel and fiberglass (stainless steel will wear 10 times faster than thermoplastics...fiberglass will wear 5 times faster), which if you are using pumps for the movement of corrosive chemicals should be great interest to you.

There are uses for Tecnium Pumps in acid production, desalination, seawater transfer (zoos and aquariums), food processing, plating, petrochemical, steel production, and many more.
The benefits of using Tecnium are many including:
The benefits of using Tecnium are many including:
- Attention to quality control. Each pump is tested thoroughly before being released for sale.
- Every impeller and casing is machined (not molded) to exact tolerances from pure, virgin plastic. Molded plastic can have air bubbles, weak spots or irregularities in the plastic, which can lead to failure or sub-par performance.
- Tecnium plastics have no fillers. There is no carbon, clay or glass in the plastic that can affect chemical resistance. Fiberglass will “wick” if there is a crack or break in the plastic, weakening the plastic and eventually causing catastrophic failure. Fiberglass gets spongy when exposed to sunlight. Tecnium pumps are armored for added UV protection.
- Tecnium vertical cantilever pumps run dry indefinitely and have no bearings or bushings in the liquid that could eventually fail.
- Less expensive than stainless steel or other exotic metals
- Pipe flanges are bolted into steel rather than to the discharge and suction flanges on the pump
- Mag-drive units run in “neutral” preventing damage when run dry.
- Plastic Pump Body is encased in steel to protect the pump from outside damage.
- Very low or no maintenance costs with operation
To give an idea of the flexibility of the Tecnium line, a few recent installations included:
- 8 vertical cantilever pumps constructed in polypropylene, PVC, and PVDF for a water plant at a California municipality (Picture enclosed). Will be used to pump, Citric Acid, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hypochlorite, Liquid Lime, Hydrogen Peroxide, and H2SO4.
- A Zoo in the Southern US, pumping seawater for the Otter exhibit a BNB horizontal flexibly coupled polypropylene pump was utilized.
- An acid plant in the South for pumping acid spillage and acid tank transfer. A BHC close coupled horizontal and BAS vertical cantilever unit was used.
- For pumping spent acid in steel mill in Pa Acid was being transferred between trucks. A BTS vertical cantilever and BHC close-coupled was utilized.
- At an American Uranium mine. There are over 100 Tecnium pumps moving some of the harshest chemicals in very harsh environments.

It’s time to tell your competitors to SCRAM!!!!!
As you know, we do have a better solution to your customer’s corrosion problems. This may sound a little on the hokey side, but the statements below are absolutely true and fit the “SCRAM” acronym to a tee. Presenting engineers and maintenance teams these facts & benefits will raise a lot of interest.
Tecnium Pumps are:
Solid Plastic: Tecnium uses nothing but the finest, purest plastics in the world. There are no fillers in the plastic that can contaminate the pumpage or weaken the plastic and no glass that can wick causing the pump to deteriorate from the inside out.
Corrosion Resistant: Tecnium offers many choices for corrosion/abrasion resistance to your pumpage. (PP, PE, PVDF, E-CTFE, PTFE)
Run-dry Capability: Our vertical cantilever pumps can run-dry INDEFINITELY There are no bearings or bushings in the pumpage that need lubrication or cooling. It is a “forget me” pump. It is (and I hate to use the analogy) like the Energizer Bunny. It keeps on running and running. Very low maintenance costs.
Armored: Our horizontal units are completely armored for added protection from outside damage and from harmful UV rays. Pipe flanges are bolted into the steel armor...not the plastic suction and discharge flanges that can crack or break when too much torque is applied.
Made With Machined casings and impellers: They are not molded! Molded plastic can have weak spots or air pockets that can cause a pump to fail. Machined parts assure better tolerances and thicknesses.
As you can see, Tecnium Pumps from Shanley Pump and Equipment, Inc. are a great addition to any chemical pumping or industrial facility.
